Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Passes Congress in Major Win

$4.5 Trillion Bill Brings Tax Cuts, Border Security Funding, and a Big Political Victory

President Donald Trump has scored a big win in his second term as the US Congress passed his USD 4.5 trillion tax and spending plan, known as the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’. The bill passed in the House of Representatives with a narrow 218–214 vote on Thursday, and now heads to the president’s desk for signing.

What’s in the Bill?

The bill includes:

  • USD 3.4 trillion in tax cuts and spending reductions
  • USD 350 billion for border and national security
  • Permanent extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts
  • New tax breaks promised during his 2024 campaign

President Trump is expected to sign the bill into law on Friday at 5 pm, during a special Fourth of July ceremony.

Trump Calls It ‘Historic’

After the bill passed, President Trump called it a “historic achievement,” saying, “It’s the biggest bill of its kind ever signed… it’s going to make this country into a rocket ship.” He added, “We covered just about everything — biggest tax cut in history, great for security, great on the southern border.”

Supporters Celebrate, Despite GOP Tensions

Even though the bill passed, it wasn’t easy. Some Republican lawmakers were unsure about certain parts, and party leaders worked overnight to gather enough votes. President Trump also personally spoke to some members to convince them to support the bill.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press call, “The one ‘big, beautiful bill’ has passed… and will be signed tomorrow at a big, beautiful signing ceremony.”

Vice President JD Vance also reacted, saying, “Congrats to everyone. At times I even doubted we’d get it done by July 4! But we’ve delivered big tax cuts and secured the resources to protect the border. Promises made, promises kept.”

What Is the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’?

The 800-page bill includes a mix of permanent tax cuts and increased spending in some key areas. It also reduces funds in some programs, especially social safety net services.

Key Highlights:

  • USD 350 billion set aside for border and national security
    • USD 46 billion for building more US-Mexico border wall
    • USD 45 billion for 100,000 migrant detention beds
    • Hiring 10,000 new ICE officers, each with a USD 10,000 bonus
  • Tax cuts from 2017 made permanent
  • More money for the military and energy projects
  • No change in taxes on Social Security benefits, despite some earlier claims

Challenges Ahead

Even though the bill passed, the close vote shows that the Republican Party still has deep divisions. Some members disagreed with parts of the bill but voted yes after pressure from party leaders and the president.

Meanwhile, Democrats voted against the bill and may use it as a campaign issue in the upcoming elections. They are likely to criticize the cuts to social programs and question the large spending on immigration enforcement.
