Income Tax Dept Launches TaxAssist to Help With Queries and Notices

New TaxAssist Helpdesk Introduced

The **Income Tax Department (ITD)** under **CBDT** has launched a support service called **TaxAssist** to help taxpayers with **filing ITRs**, responding to **e-verification notices**, and resolving **high-value transaction** alerts.

Who Gets TaxAssist Alerts?

  • Taxpayers who haven’t filed their **ITR for AY 2024–25**.
  • Those flagged for **high-value transactions** in the Annual Information Statement (AIS).
  • Individuals with **pending e-verification notices** under Sections 133(6), 148, or 139(9).

How to Use TaxAssist

  • Check email or SMS for messages from **noreply@incometax.gov.in**.
  • Login to **e-filing portal**, go to the **Pending Actions** tab.
  • Follow instructions, revise ITRs if needed, or respond to notices.
  • Contact the **designated helpdesk** for guidance.

Why It Matters

  • This service uses **SMS, email, and helpdesk support** to promote voluntary compliance.
  • It aims to catch genuine errors in time, avoiding penalties under Sections 144 or 270A.
  • Helps **salaried individuals and small businesses** match their AIS data and avoid mismatches.

TaxAssist is part of the **e-Filing 2.0 platform** and aims to make the ITR filing process smoother, reducing taxpayer confusion and potential penalties.
